Several scientists in the lab study the atmosphere and moons of Jupiter. In particular they observe Jupiter from ground-based observatories, as well as from space with the Hubble Space telescope to study the dynamics, composition and structure of this giant planet. Code 693 personnel were involved in the planning, execution and analysis of observations during the Cassini and New Horizons spacecraft Jupiter flybys (gravity assists on the way to their target destinations of Saturn and Pluto/the Kuiper Belt, respectively).
Jupiter and Io montage captured by the New horizons spacecraft. The Jupiter image is false-color near IR data obtained with the LEISA instrument, built at GSFC.
